Rookie group B1A4 signed a contract with Jang Geun Suk’s Japanese agency, making their venture into Japan official.

“B1A4 signed a contract with Pony Canyon, one of the largest Japanese agencies, and will hold its debut showcase on Dec. 9 in Japan,” B1A4 and Pony Canyon said in a statement.

Pony Canyon is a subsidiary of Japan’s giant media company, Fuji Sankei Communication Group, and has some of the best Japanese celebrities including w-inds, Aiko, Ueto Aya, and Jang Geun Suk under its wings.

“The decision to sign B1A4 was unprecedented in that they are a rookie group. However, despite being a rookie group, their high-quality music, polished choreography, and sophisticated fashion style make them one of the most promising Hallyu stars, so we decided to sign them. Jang Geun Suk too talked very highly of them,” Pony Canyon said in a statement.

B1A4 will hold their first Japanese performance on Dec. 9 in Tokyo under the title, “B1A4-Japan Showcase Live 2011.” In January, they will also release their first licensed CD, combining the tracks from their first two mini albums in Korea.

Jang Geun Suk’s associate recently revealed that a documentary following the actor’s schedule is planned to be broadcast early next year on KBS. The documentary will show Jang Geun Suk’s daily routine, as well as the busy actor’s activities in Japan, Korea, and even England. It will capture the actor’s popularity abroad and at home, and reveal why he commands such enthusiasm everywhere.
Jang Geun Suk, who was born in 1987, is nearing the 20th year in his career. Starting off as a child model, the young star has made his name through dramas and movies, and even debuting as a singer.

Jang Geun Suk became a household name through the drama, “You’re Beautiful,” which found incredible popularity in Japan. Unlike other Hallyu actors, Jang Geuk Suk boasts a wide age range of fans in Japan.

Starting from this popularity, Jang Geun Suk has appeared on many variety shows, grabbed commercial deals, released an album, and even held numerous fan meetings that drew thousands in Japan. The Hallyu star has been able to increase and sustain his popularity through diverse projects and fan service.

An associate of Jang Geun Suk revealed in the documentary that Jang Geun Suk is popular in Japan because he is “strange.” Jang Geun Suk is not a character that Japanese fans are used to. The associate continued, “I think people like his truthfulness.” It seems that Jang Geun Suk’s fans also like the actor's show of confidence that is different from the humility that is usually thought to be proper among celebrities.

For the Japanese fans, Jang Geun Suk is a never-before-seen character in the entertainment industry. Other Hallyu stars target their fans through familiarity but Jang Geun Suk takes the opposite approach.

Like Jang Geun Suk has shown on many television programs, he has a “free” personality that prompts him to act and talk without the same reserve that many celebrities show in public. Jang Geun Suk approaches his fans without any barriers and this appeals to many fans. Jang Geun Suk even attended a private meeting between his fans without any prior notice. He acted as DJ at this party, creating a fun atmosphere.
Jang Geun Suk is currently on tour in Japan for his “2011 Jang Geun Suk Arena Tour The CRI Show in Japan ‘Always Close To You’” concert. The first show was held in Nagoya with more than 10,000 fans. The next concert is in Osaka on Oct. 22 and 23.
